Thanks for your note Kathy, you've inspired me to type again :)
I am well and truly back in the mode of being thankful for Fridays. Mon-Fri I tend to spend on lessons and the weekend is for marking - note to self ... in class, one word answer quizes take much less time to mark than essays, source work or research assignments....
Midterm grades are supposed to be in this coming week so there has been a bit of a scramble to get at least two, preferably 3 marks for each student into the system ... sigh... Unispired by my surroundings, and feeling the need to take a break from trying to sort out a number of computer problems, I walked to the Mall via a noodle shop and sat in the coffee shop to mark.
It was a beautiful day out. I had some chicken noodle soup at a semi outdoor place and walked along the klong to the Mall.
The pictures are
1. Washing day at the temple. The temple has a lot of novice monks (youngish boys) as well as older monks. You can see their orange robes hanging out to dry on the verandahs.
2. The terminal station of the klong boat - the upside is if I fall asleep I can't miss my stop.... however the noisy chug of the motor, the diesel fumes in the air and the splashing up of the klong water mean I am not likely to fall asleep.
3. A klong boat - the tarpaulin cross hessian on the side of the boat is there to stop the splash coming in.
4. A kind of shanty town on the klong.
5. Buildings adjacent to the klong painted by omeone who, to quote Nana, doesn't see colours the same way.
I have 3/4 of my marking done which is something. It is a bit time consuming at this stage as the students are just beginning to get their heads around the structure and need a lot of feedback on what they are doing well and what to work on. It seems to be constructively spent time.
I caught a bus back. It's a dorky trainspotter thing to admit to, but I stood at the bus stop for 20 mins to write down the nos of buses going past so when I find myself in another part of Bangkok I have a selection of bus numbers to take me back to my general area. :)
