Ayuthaya

Before the holidays I did manage to make it to Ayuthaya.
Ayuthaya is one of Thailand's former capitals: an inland port city surrounded by rivers, where trade flourished. There is an old foreigner section that was largely Portuguese.

An irksome aspect of Ayuthaya was the 50 baht ($2.50) entry fee on everything for foreigners - free in most cases for Thai or anyone who looks Thai enough to get away with it. In other places I have been they will reduce the price for bearers of a local teacher card (not sure about other local ID cards)but not Ayuthaya....
(Thailand is actually extremely racist - but I'll leave that for a rave another day.)

Other than that, it was a pleasant trip. I hired a bike to get about - it was the first time I had been on one for many months.

PS I would quite like to delete one of these photos which is not very good - but the effort involved means it will stay...
