Little things can make life much easier.
This afternoon I went to The Mall with Noc. Usually I don't particularly like The Mall - largely because I get lost and there are no signs in English or Thai - and go there just to sit in one of the coffee shops and mark papers.
But today it was a very productive trip.
- I collected my backpack which had been repaired well beyond my expectations. It's a great backpack, but being purchased from a street vendor on Sukhumvit - the main drag of Bangkok - I would be delusional if I thought it was a genuine brand. (disclaimer... I'm not into fake brands at all but it's easier to buy a fake brand than a non branded middle of the range product.)
- Toshiba deregionalised my computer - buying it in England, being in SE Asia, having a lot of US zone DVDs in the shops - my computer was having an identity crisis and was going to allow only 2 more changes of region before it locked permanently ....some tinkering and some Toshiba software and problem solved at no charge!
- I paid my rent and learned you can do cash deposits via bilingual ATMs
- I had a very tasty dinner - thai salad and soup
- I bought new eyeliner - the ones I have have nothing left to sharpen - happily they still have the purple /black colour that I usually wear.
- I bought new tea for the staffroom (with so many people who don't consume for reliegious reasons on staff I can really only blame myself for the excessive rate at which it is consumed).
- I bought sticky rice mango in the after 7 sales to eat at home for desert :)
What could have been a trip of frustration, turned out to be happily productive. Now if I can just get a couple of exams written tonight it really will have been a productive day :)
