Hello from Siem Reap.
I took the boat here from Battambang this morning.
It followed a windy river that had numerous floating villages along the way.
The boat was low and small, and probably could have seated 18 comfortably.
It seemed to be somewhat akin to the local mail boat too, dropping off parcels along the way.
It took close to 8 hours - the guide book says it takes between 4 and 8 - I can't see how it could possibly take 4 and could definitely take a lot longer than 8 if they dropped off more parcels.
It was a pretty trip though - most passengers were Cambodian, but 2 Brits and a German as well.
The guest house had ABC Asia playing in the foyer so it was a bit of a shock to see local member Eric resigning in disgrace... I should reserve my angst about corruption here perhaps...
Will go to see Angkor tomorrow - tonight's mission is to find out whether there is bike hire from close to the temples.

Wonderful blogging! You have transported me to a place I can only dream of visiting. Your observations and in-depth historical curiousity makes for a fun read- thanks for letting your friends join you on this journey:)
One omiyage request- when you get back, if you have time and took pics, would love to see them with the corresponding posts- curious how my imagination compares to the real thing. Cheers, love and happy travelling.
You're too kind Lily.
I think actually aside from my parents and Kathy, you are the the only person that reads this - lol.
For some reason I cant log in to update for today.
Á double dose for tomorrow perhaps. ;)'
Have found a cafe that is reasonable and the keyboard isn't sticking, which means I might have to up my standards on proof reading.
I read occasionally as well - helps my insomnia in the early hours of the morning - just joking - a bit of home made panang curry for dinner sitting awkeardly
